Thank You Nurses: A Community Celebration

8:00 AM - 7:00 PM

THANK YOU, NURSES! A Community Celebration will commence the morning of May 10, 2025 with a public WALK WITH A NURSE opportunity . The public may participate at their own pace as they traverse a mile in the mall that includes ½ mile on each of the mall’s two-levels. Walkers may check-in at 8:30 AM to 9 AM. The walk will be completed by 9:30 AM. All walkers who sign up will receive certificates of participation, suitable for framing.

Following the walk, shoppers may view the LIFE SCIENCE WOMEN’S WALL of FAME, presented by the Life Science Women’s Network, featuring historical advancements and  achievements  made by women throughout the centuries, dating back to ancient Greece, by 25 renowned women in the fields of life science, medicine and health, such as:

  • Metrodora c.200-400 AD Known among many other historical medical contributions, she wrote the oldest medical text known to be written by a woman.
  • Agnodice 4th Century As a physician and gynecologist in ancient Greece  she had to disguise herself as a man because it was illegal for women to practice medicine
  • Marguerite Davis 1887-1967 who was responsible for discovering nutritional components of milk, which were eventually resolved into vitamins A, B,C,D and k.
  • Getty Carl She received the first Nobel Prize for discovering the enzymes that convert glycogen to sugar and back in to glycogen again. She was the first American woman to win a Nobel Prize.
  • Elizabeth Blackwell 1881-1910 The first woman in America to receive a medical degree. Her accomplishment was inspirational to many American women who followed.
  • Rebecca Lee Crumpler 1831-1895 The first African American woman to earn a medical degree. She authored a book entitled “Book of Medical Discoveries”.

Supporting vendors will be exhibiting and interfacing  with the general  public from 10AM to7PM. 1,000  Life Science Women’s Wall of Fame  bookmarks will be given away free to shoppers.

Advent Health will have its special Mammogram bus on premise from 10 AM to 1PM on May 10th. The screenings are free and those interested should reserve an  appointment by contacting them at: www.AdventHealthMobileMammography.com

Appointments are encouraged so that they can pre-register them in their system prior to the event date.  This helps the day run smoothly and also how they are able to keep appointments in 10-minute increments.
